Woolsheds by Andrew Chapman

One of Australia's finest photographers, Andrew Chapman, has embarked on a passionately aspiring project to record woolsheds in every state, capturing the monumental as well as the everyday.

This is an invaluable historical record of an Australian icon at the end of an era.

For 35 years, photographer Andrew Chapman has roamed Australia in search of woolsheds. Some date back to the early 19th century; some are still in use; many are tumbling away into time.

With an artist's eye and love of light, Chapman celebrates their place in the landscape and the subtle beauty of old beams, tools, and fading writing on walls. His images linger like oil and lanolin stains on timber floors. There are sheep. And dogs. Also the people who work in, or own these sheds. They have told Chapman their stories.
