Spun from history — the Nundle Carded Sliver is prepared on our carding machine manufactured in 1914, one of the last of its kind still in operation in Australia. The result is a beautifully prepared slubbing and roving that carries more than a century of wool craft tradition in every fibre — perfect for hand spinners, felters and fibre artists who appreciate the real thing.
Soft, airy and full of natural character, this carded sliver is ready to spin straight from the bag or felt into your next creative project. As a naturally processed fibre, it may contain very small traces of vegetable matter such as seed or burr — a hallmark of genuine, minimally processed Australian wool.
The Story Behind the Fibre
This fibre begins its journey in the clean, cool pastures of Tasmania's northern midlands, on the Youl family's Elsdon property near Perth, Tasmania. Their exceptional Merino fleece is prized for its fineness, naturally brilliant white base and long, consistent staple — the very qualities that make it perform beautifully across every fibre technique.
From the Elsdon property, this Tasmanian Merino fleece travels to Nundle Woollen Mill, where it's carded on our historic 1914 machine into the soft, airy sliver and roving you're holding — carrying more than a century of wool craft tradition and a paddock-to-project story as pure and traceable as fibre gets.
Why Yarnistas & Fibre Artists Love Nundle Carded Sliver
Perfect For:
Hand spinning · Wheel spinning · Wet felting · Needle felting · Nuno felting · Fibre art · Weaving · Creative craft projects
Please Note
As a naturally processed fibre, this carded sliver may contain very small traces of vegetable matter such as seed or burr. This is completely normal in minimally processed wool and is a characteristic of genuine, traditionally carded fibre rather than a defect.
